Relocation
The recent relocation of the Atlanta Thrashers to Winnipeg had me thinking "How would a big time Nintendo franchise handle a relocation?" Could the Nintendo universe handle characters switching lands and fan-bases? That would be an interesting idea. Would they gain new fans or lose fans that they already had? How would Mario deal with being in Hyrule? How would Kirby handle the Mushroom Kingdom? Could Link be a Pokemon trainer? Could Pokemon Masters be able to catch em all in Dream Land? Cross-overs happen all the time on TV but you don't see them too often in the video game world. What I'm proposing isn't really a cross-over exactly. It's more of a reality swap rather than a cross over. Would the characters ask any questions or would they act like nothing has happened? If Nintendo ever did anything like this, it would show the fans that Nintendo is ready for new ideas and we all know how Nintendo likes to think outside the box. It seems like Nintendo likes to include characters from other games like Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy into big name games but Nintendo doesn't really put the main characters from other games into other games other than Snowboarding or Basketball games. Mario used to make cameo appearances all the time. Maybe that was because they already had the sprite made on the Nintendo Entertainment System and it was just easier to throw Mario in as a Ref or have him standing around. Maybe they thought if Mario was in the game, it would sell more copies. Fortune Street, a new Wii game seems to be a spin off type game that has Mario characters in it. Mario does all sorts of sport spin off games but he rarely is in different games. Maybe he stars in a RPG type game or a spin off game like Mario Paint. Could another character be in those types of games like a Zelda RPG like Zelda 2 or a side-scrolling Pokemon game. It would be fun to see Nintendo experiment with their go-to games. In this day and age, companies don't experiment too much because if they don't make money, it isn't worth their time to try an unorthodox game like a Kirby RPG. With new developers jumping on with Nintendo, who knows what new and exciting games could come out. Relocation works at times for sport teams. Could it work for video games? We're just going to have to wait and see on that one.
