Whatever Happened 2? 1/16/12

I'm going to try and make this a column on the Nintentofive site. The concept is simple, discuss things in the Nintendo/Video game universe that don't seem to exist anymore or haven't seen the light of day in a long time. Examples could be the Ghost houses from Super Mario World or Wart from Mario 2. Do these ideas go into the "swing and a miss" category or do they go into the "what the hell were we thinking" area? Whatever the case maybe, some of the fan favorites are characters that don't see the limelight very much. Geno from Mario RPG is a great example of this. Geno is a character that the fans want to see again just like the idea of a legit Mario RPG sequel. The same could be said about Mallow, the former Tadpole from Tadpole Pond who was actually Nimbus Land Royalty. What a twist that was! I was never really a fan of Geno in the sense that I would use him all the time in the game but I see where the loyalty comes from. New character, new origin story, and it built around the Mario story. Geno was from the Star Road and after Smithy tampered with it, Geno was willing to help Mario save the day. Most of the Mario RPG universe could be put into this category but I don't want to use up all my resources in the first issue. For the maiden issue of Whatever Happened To.... I will end with these thoughts:

1. Will Mallow and Geno ever be brought back into the Mario universe. With everything that happened with Square Enix and Nintendo, it doesn't look good.

2. Will the boss enemies such as Belome or Mack get the Mario 2 treatment or the Mario 3 treatment. Mario 2 treatment is the enemies are known in the Mario universe but don't get to see the light of day too often. Whereas Mario 3 treatment is be in a game, such as the Koopa Kids, be in another game, not be heard from for a while, and then pop back up.

3. With the success of Paper Mario, would Nintendo be willing to go back to the Mario RPG graphics and design when Paper Mario was a success?

Only time can tell on these topics and more. Leave comments about how you feel on the subject of Mario RPG. Be on the lookout for the next Whatever Happened 2 and for my die hard Mario RPG fans....
