What's Wrong with a Mouse wearing Shades. Besides, Ladies Love FryGuy |
Over the years, Games at Nintendo have evolved over time and classic characters have changed. From graphics to story lines, games need to adapt with the times. Names could be changed and some characters could be left in the dust. The question then becomes why do some classic characters get a face lift and others get left behind. In the rare circumstance, characters get a new identity entirely, like the Bloober. In Super Mario Sunshine, I believe, was the first time American gamers heard the Bloober called the Blooper. Call me old fashioned but it just doesn't sound right for the Bloober to be a Blooper. I'll still call him the Bloober but that's just me. As for the guys who get left behind, Super Mario 2 is a prime example of enemies not seeing the light of day since. What gave Shy-Guy and Snifit lasting appeal and enemies like FryGuy, TriClyde, and Mouser didn't. If the Koopa Kids can make a comeback, why can't FryGuy or Mouser? Those boss characters look pretty cool to me and you would think they would have lasting appeal. In the Mario 3D game, it looks like the leaf power-up gives Mario the Tanooki suit. Why did Nintendo change the leaf from Raccoon Mario to the Tanooki suit? The Mushroom has always changed Mario's size. The Starman has always given Mario invincibility. So why change the Leaf Power-up? I guess that's why people at Nintendo get paid to make these decisions and I don't. Zelda games aren't immune to change either. The Gorons were enemies first in A Link To the Past on Death Mountain. They then changed their loyalty in Ocarina of Time and became good guys that Link would become Blood Brothers with. They also got a major design change but that comes when better hardware is introduced. Game boxes also get modified from time to time. The game could have the "best seller" tag put on it after it sells a certain number of copies or when the system it is played on has been out for a long time and the game becomes a member of "players choice" or whatever the best seller group is called at the time. But it looks like the actually box design has been changed for 3DS games. The 3DS name is on the right. Its a minor change but still a modification none the less. Nintendo changes as time goes by and with the E3 announcements such as a new system or darker games, Nintendo is changing for the better.
